ChalkNote

A behaviour log for teachers that keeps its records on the phone: log what happened in seconds, see the pattern over a term, and take a report to the meeting.

iPhone and Android. Free, with no ads. ChalkNote Plus is optional.

Who it is for

For teachers who need a record they can take to a parent meeting or a school team meeting, without putting student information on anyone else’s server. No account, no cloud, no ads.

How it works

  1. A class roster in ChalkNote: each student’s last 14 school days as a strip of marks, with their latest log and their positive and negative counts

    1

The roster shows each student’s last 14 school days as a strip, blue ▲ for positive and orange ▼ for negative, beside their latest log and their counts. Swipe a student right to log something positive, left for something negative.

  2. Logging a behaviour for one student: Positive chosen, the recent behaviour types, then the list under Responsibility, Organization, Independent Work and more

    2

Logging asks two things: positive or negative, then what happened. The behaviour types sit under the learning skills most report cards ask about, with the ones used last at the top.

  3. The class summary: 500 logs since August 13, 388 positive and 112 negative, logs per student, and logs week by week

    3

The Summary counts the class for today, this week, the last 30 days or everything: here 500 logs since August, 78% of them positive, with the busiest week and a split by category.

  4. Making a report for one student: a PDF or a spreadsheet, for a chosen period, logs and categories, then Preview, Print or Share

    4

A report for one student or the whole class, as a PDF or a spreadsheet, for the period, logs and categories you choose. Preview it, print it, or share it.

Good to know

  • ChalkNote was called ClassTrack until version 4.0. It is the same app under a new name, and updating keeps every class, log and Plus subscription.
  • Records are kept on the phone, with no account and no server. A backup is a file the teacher exports and keeps, and backup is free.

How it is built

Flutter, for Android and iOS from one codebase, with the records in SQLite on the phone. There is no backend at all — which is the privacy guarantee, not a missing feature.

Built with Flutter, Dart, Android, iOS.
